Who we are.

This website is run by BBA Media, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 05140896, registered office 9 Broadway Buildings, Boston Road, London W7 3TT. We broadcast as Westside Radio.

We are the data controller for information collected through this site. For anything about your information, email info@thisiswestside.com.

What we collect, and when.

We only collect information you choose to send us.

  • Contact, advertising and DJ/host hire enquiries — your name, email address and whatever you write in the message.
  • Course enquiries — your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the course and option you asked about, and your message.
  • Technical data — like any website, ours is served by a hosting provider (Vercel) that keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses and basic request information.

We do not ask for anything we do not need, and there is no account to create.

Why we hold it, and on what basis.

To read your message and reply to it, and to keep a record of the conversation so the next person who picks it up knows what was already said.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests — running a radio station and responding to people who get in touch. Where your enquiry is a step towards booking a course, an advertising campaign or a DJ or host, we also process it to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.

Who else sees it.

Westside staff who need to deal with your enquiry, and the following services that handle it on our behalf:

  • Resend — delivers the email your enquiry becomes, and the confirmation we send back to you.
  • Vercel — hosts this website and keeps the server logs described above. The pages and forms themselves run in Vercel's London region.
  • Sharp Stream — only if you press play. Our live stream and the Listen Again player are provided by Sharp Stream, so your device connects to them directly and they receive your IP address. See Cookies below.
  • Google — only if you accept cookies. Google Analytics and Google Ads tell us which pages and adverts bring people to the site, and record a small set of actions on it, listed under Cookies below — never what you typed.

We do not sell your information, and nothing you type into a form is ever passed to Google or any advertiser.

Where your information goes outside the UK. We have chosen to run this website's pages and forms in Vercel's London region, so the handling of what you send us happens in the UK. Three things still involve transfers abroad, and we rely on the UK's approved safeguards for each:

  • Vercel is a US company, and some platform information such as operational logs may be processed in the United States. Our agreement with Vercel incorporates the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
  • Resend processes email in the United States. Our agreement with Resend incorporates the UK Addendum to the Standard Contractual Clauses.
  • Google (only if you accept cookies) processes analytics and advertising data in the United States. Google is certified under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Cookies.

We only set cookies if you say yes. When you first visit, a banner asks. If you accept, Google Analytics and Google Ads cookies (names beginning _ga and _gcl) are set so we can see which pages and adverts bring people to the site and whether they go on to send an enquiry. If you reject, or ignore the banner, Google's code is not loaded at all.

What we measure if you accept. Page visits; when you start filling in a form; when an enquiry is successfully sent (enquiries our spam filter flags are not counted); and clicks on Listen Live, on our app-store links, and on our email, phone and WhatsApp links. A Listen Live click tells us someone pressed play — not whether, or for how long, they listened.

Each of these is sent with only limited context: which form or kind of link it was, roughly where on the page it sat, and which page it happened on. Your name, email address, phone number and the contents of your message or enquiry are not sent to Google Analytics.

Google Analytics also records standard technical information such as your device type, browser and approximate location, as well as the page address visited.

Your choice is remembered in your browser so we don't ask every visit. You can change it at any time:

One exception is worth naming: the Listen Again player embedded on our schedule and listen-back pages is served by Sharp Stream, and a third-party embed can set its own cookies when it loads. That is their player, under their terms.

How long we keep it.

This website does not store your enquiry. It becomes an email in one of our inboxes, and that is the only copy we hold.

  • Enquiries that do not go anywhere — 12 months from the last time we heard from you, then deleted. Long enough that we still know who you are if you come back to us next season; no longer than we can justify keeping it.
  • Enquiries that turn into a booking — 6 years from the end of the financial year they relate to, because at that point it is part of our accounting records and UK company and tax law requires us to keep it. Those records live in our booking and accounting systems rather than on this website. We may have to keep them longer where HMRC has opened a compliance check, where a return was filed late, or where the transaction spans more than one accounting period.

Your rights.

You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to restrict how we use it, object to our using it, and ask for it in a portable form. Email info@thisiswestside.com and we will deal with it. Where we cannot do what you have asked, we will tell you why.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your information.

Tell us first if you would like to — email info@thisiswestside.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days, look into it without undue delay, and keep you posted on how it is going and how it ends up.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113. You do not have to come to us first.

Automated decisions.

We do not make automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you.

Changes to this policy.

We will update this page when we change how the site handles information, and change the date at the top when we do. Material changes will be flagged here.
